LIST: Packaging Industry Good vs Evil

As promised, I am including a list of those packages that are honest representations of what is actually in the package and not designed to mislead the consumer. (see prior blog about the evils of the packaging industry) The list below is by no means complete and I will add more as I find them. You are also welcome to give suggestions and I will add them where they are applicable and good suggestions. * I reserve the right to add or not add as I see fit, it’s my blog after all)

GOOD GUYS:

- Pepperidge Farm (bags of  Goldfish, cookies, and boxes of crackers.)
- Most anything in clear plastic (pretzels, tortilla chips)
- Trader Joe’s cat food (the can is full of meat and isn’t mostly gravy)
-
Nutro Max Cat food (full to the brim!)

BAD GUYS:

- Most any brand of potato chip and Doritos type chip (it’s mostly air in the package)
- Nine Lives, Friskies type cat food (there may be others but these are the ones I have knowlege of)
- Most any kind of vitamin and pain reliever (For a bottle of 60, you get more cotton and air than you get pills! even Trader Joe’s has fallen prey to this)
- Cd’s/Dvd’s with the extra cardboard around the cd/dvd case (it’s a waste of a good tree)
(i.e. KD Lang’s new cd Watershed has a cardboard covering that is exactly the same cover as the cd. Same thing holds true for the horror movie The Decent. I ask you WHAT is the cardboard cover for?)

- Neutrogena’s Fresh Lash Tint mascara (The packaging is twice the size of the product, the applicator is bigger than the actual container of mascara.)
- Dentene Ice Gum (They come in a blister pack.  What are they trying to protect…are the little gums made of gold? Remember when Chicklet type gums came in a little box and were allowed to touch each other, be free and dance joyously around the box? Made a great sound too, especially if you wanted to pretend you were a train!)
