I also love all things Irish and so when I found the book Haunted and Bewitched Ireland By Bob Curran, I immediately went and searched out more titles written by Himself and other authors. Non Fiction:
Haunted and Bewitched Ireland By Bob Curran
[I've actually read this one and it has a lot of history in it which I love, but the author has actually been to these places and spoken to the people who live in the area. He also adds in his own personal experiences. Below is the editorial review from Amazon]
“Haunted and Bewitched Ireland contains twenty-one classic tales of Irish ghosts and witches that reveal as much about the complex cultural history of the land as about the universal ability of otherworldy phenomena to capture the imagination. Part one focuses on the stories of ghosts, wraiths, spirits, and spectres who visit the living, from County Limerick to County Down. Part two recounts the riveting stories of such infamous witches as Dame Alice Kyteler, Florence Newton, and Bridget Cleary, as well as numerous biographies of hedge witches, fairy doctors, and other reputed practitioners of the black arts. With its combination of quintessentially Irish folklore and local history, Haunted and Bewitched Ireland radiates with the supernatural mystery of Ireland’s ancient traditions. “
A Haunted Land: Ireland’s Ghosts by Bob Curran
[I also found this title by Bob Curran and it got 4 stars on Amazon. Below is the editorial review. Bob has also written lots of books on other supernatural subject many of them about Irish legends like fairies, witches, vampires and other Celtic lore.]
These stories of the amazing variety of hauntings throughout Ireland range from wraith-like ghosts to the full-bodied type, the dangerous and damaging, and the merely frightening. Notorious buildings are described, such as Leap Castle, where psychics have been overwhelmed. There are also spirits who warn of impending death or try to avenge long-forgotten wrongdoing. “
True Irish Ghost Stories: Haunted Houses, Banshees, Poltergeists, and Other Supernatural Phenomena by John D. Seymour and Harry L. Neligan
[This one got 3 stars on Amazon, so it's something I may just pick up. Below is the editorial review from Amazon]
“Classified by geographical area, these simple yet compelling narratives provide amazing descriptions of poltergeists and banshees, spirit-filled houses, deathbed scenes pervaded by specters, legendary and ancestral phantoms, uncanny forewarnings of death, and other unearthly experiences. A comprehensive collection of authentic ghost tales: disarming, convincing, and illuminating.”
